Context
Counterweight is a UK-based digital health provider specializing in evidence-based weight management and Type 2 diabetes remission. Their clinical credibility is world-class — their core protocol supplied the intervention arm for the landmark DiRECT trial, the largest randomized controlled trial for T2D remission to date.
Despite a clinically proven programme partnered with the NHS, Counterweight's growth was being crippled by manual, non-scalable internal processes. The early tech prototype lacked the robustness needed for large-scale patient management.

Phase 1
NHS Compliance & Architecture
We transitioned the backend from a fragile microservices/GraphQL setup to a highly stable monolithic REST API — dramatically improving reliability and reducing operational complexity. Simultaneously we prepared the platform for NHS information security reviews.

Phase 2
Flutter + Offline-First Patient App
Using Flutter, we built a high-performance patient app for iOS and Android, later extending the exact same core logic to Desktop/Web — a single codebase for every platform. The offline-first architecture was the defining technical achievement.
